Services
Variable Speed Drive Service and Repair
Most drive failures come down to the same handful of causes. Blocked cooling paths. Capacitors that haven’t been serviced in years. Moisture or dust in the cabinet. These failures are predictable, and a structured maintenance program catches them before they take a system down.
We service Danfoss VLT and Vacon drives across Australia, with factory-trained technicians, locally stocked spare parts, and a Newcastle workshop set up for full VSD load testing. For operations that can’t afford to wait on international parts or an unfamiliar technician, that matters.
Onsite VSD Service and Commissioning
We come to site for commissioning, routine maintenance inspections, and emergency breakdown response. Every visit is documented with a detailed service report covering findings, fault logs, environmental conditions, and what we recommend next.
Back-to-Base VSD Repairs
When a drive needs more than onsite attention, it comes back to our Newcastle workshop. We run full fault diagnosis, component replacement, and load testing before it goes back into service. Locally stocked parts keep turnaround tight.
Preventative Maintenance Programs
Scheduled maintenance reduces the risk of unplanned failure and extends asset life. SLA-based variable speed drive service contracts, with intervals set to OEM recommendations and adjusted for how your site actually runs.
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Service and Maintenance
When did your UPS last get serviced? For hospitals, data centres, substations, and industrial sites, that question matters more than most. We’re a Socomec authorised service partner providing UPS maintenance across Australia, so when we open the cabinet, we know exactly what we’re looking at.
We service all major UPS platforms including Socomec, Eaton, APC, and CET Power. Battery thermal runaway, DC capacitor failure, and end-of-life battery degradation are the failure modes we see most often. They’re also the ones a structured maintenance program is designed to prevent.
UPS Load Testing and Battery Condition Testing
Load bank testing and battery condition testing are separate services. Together they tell you what your system can actually deliver in a real outage, not just what its nameplate says.
Preventative Maintenance and Service Contracts
Planned UPS maintenance covers environmental checks, thermal scanning, connection inspections, battery condition assessment, firmware review, and fault log analysis. SLA-based contracts for single sites and multi-site portfolios across Australia.
Back-to-Base UPS Repairs
Large UPS systems stay where they are, we come to you. Our technicians handle component-level repair, full fault diagnosis, load verification, and testing on location, so there's no downtime moving critical equipment. If you have a spare unit that can be swapped out, we can also repair that in our Newcastle workshop and return it ready for service.
DC Power Systems and Battery Maintenance
Utilities, telco operators, and substation managers depend on DC power systems to keep operations running when everything else fails. They also tend to be the systems that get the least attention until there’s a problem.
We’re Australia’s exclusive Rectifier Technologies service partner, providing DC power system maintenance, commissioning, and load testing across industrial DC chargers and battery backup systems. Battery failures from thermal runaway, connection torque issues, and charger mis-set are well-documented and preventable.
We supply and install DFUN battery monitoring systems as part of our DC power service offering. DFUN BMS provides real-time visibility of battery state and early warning of developing faults, catching the conditions that lead to thermal runaway, capacity loss, and end-of-life degradation before they become failures.
DC Power System Maintenance
Full maintenance programs across telecom, substation, data centres, and critical infrastructure applications. Covering the full range of industrial DC chargers and battery backup systems.
DFUN Battery Monitoring Systems
We supply and install DFUN BMS for real-time battery state monitoring and early fault detection. A new service offering, now available as part of any DC power maintenance program.
Power Quality Audits — Power Factor Correction and Active Harmonic Filters
Poor power quality doesn’t always announce itself. It shows up in your energy bill, in equipment that fails earlier than it should, and in penalty charges from your network operator. By the time it’s obvious, it’s already cost you.
We provide power factor correction unit maintenance and power quality audits across Australia, covering PFCU and active harmonic filter systems. Thermal performance checks, harmonic distortion testing, and power factor correction sizing assessments. In the Hunter Valley, unmanaged harmonics from variable speed drives are a recurring issue in mining operations. We’ve solved it before.

Thermal performance checks, harmonic distortion testing, and power factor correction sizing assessments for industrial operations.
PFCU and AHF Maintenance
Inspection and maintenance of existing power factor correction units and active harmonic filter installations.
How we work
We work the way operations managers need a contractor to work. Structured where it counts, responsive when it matters.
Site Audits and Asset Registers
Operations managers often inherit systems with incomplete records. We fix that — audits, asset registers, and a defensible compliance position.
Planned Maintenance and SLAs
Electrical maintenance contracts across NSW and the Hunter Valley, structured around your assets, access windows, and compliance requirements.
24/7 Breakdown Response
When something fails, we respond. Our 24-hour breakdown service operates nationally. Emergency repair in Newcastle is typically same-day.
Onsite and Back-to-Base Repairs
Some repairs happen on site. Others need the workshop. We handle both — onsite repair and back-to-base through our Newcastle facility.
Credentials and Certifications
Colterlec holds formal certification and OEM partnership status across the systems we service. These are the credentials procurement managers and compliance teams look for when qualifying an electrical maintenance contractor.

Frequently Asked Questions
What electrical maintenance services does Colterlec provide?
Colterlec provides specialist maintenance, repair, and servicing for variable speed drives (VSDs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), DC power systems, power quality equipment including PFCU and AHF systems, machine safety systems, and industrial Moxa networking hardware. We also supply and install DFUN battery monitoring systems, and provide site audits, asset registers, and planned maintenance contracts.
How do I know if my VSD needs replacing or repairing?
In most cases, a VSD can be repaired rather than replaced, and repair is significantly more cost-effective. The decision depends on the age of the drive, availability of parts, the nature of the fault, and whether the unit is still supported by the manufacturer. Our technicians carry out a full fault diagnosis before recommending a course of action. For Danfoss VLT and Vacon drives, we hold locally stocked parts and can complete most repairs at our Newcastle workshop without long lead times. If a drive is beyond economic repair or no longer supported, we’ll tell you plainly and help you specify a replacement.
How often should a UPS be load tested?
Industry best practice and most OEM recommendations call for UPS load testing annually, with battery condition testing at the same interval. For facilities with critical uptime requirements — including hospitals, data centres, and substations — six-monthly testing is advisable. Load testing is the only way to verify that a UPS will actually deliver its rated capacity during a real outage. A battery that passes a visual inspection can still fail under load. We offer both standalone load testing engagements and testing as part of a broader planned maintenance program.
How quickly can you respond to an emergency electrical breakdown?
Our 24-hour breakdown service operates nationally. Field teams are deployed from our Newcastle headquarters and state-based support locations. Emergency electrical repair in Newcastle and the surrounding Hunter Valley is typically same-day.
Are you pre-qualified to work with mining, government, and utility contractors?
Yes. Colterlec is pre-qualified and active on Avetta, Pegasus, Damstra, SAP Ariba, RapidGlobal, WHS Monitor, Felix, and Smartek. We are ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified. We have active service agreements with major mining, utility, and government operators across Australia including Glencore, Energy Queensland, Veolia, Hunter Water, and Qbuild.
