Engineered electrical solutions, designed and built for industrial applications
Getting the design right from the start protects your production time, reduces environmental and safety risk, and gives you a system built to perform from day one.
One electrical partner from design through to commissioning and maintenance. No subcontractors, no handover gaps.
Colterlec designs, engineers and manufactures custom electrical systems. Our in-house teams cover electrical and mechatronics engineering, and we manage the full project lifecycle from concept and system design through to manufacture, installation, commissioning and ongoing service.
Our teams have been delivering engineered electrical solutions and industrial electrical control systems for over 30 years nationally. ISO 9001 certified and pre-qualified across all major Australian contractor compliance platforms.
All design and manufacturing is handled in-house. The team that designs your system is the team that builds and commissions it. No subcontracted fabrication, no handover gaps.
Custom Engineered Electrical Solutions
Five core capability areas, each delivered in-house by our electrical and mechatronics engineering teams.
Variable Speed Drive Systems
Running VSDs without proper controls integration creates reliability issues, harmonic problems and long-term maintenance costs. We design and build custom VSD panel solutions, including Danfoss VLT and Vacon systems, fully integrated into your existing controls architecture.
Our engineering teams support turnkey builds and upgrades across NSW and nationally, from initial design through to site commissioning and handover documentation.

Turnkey Supply and Installation
Panel manufacture in our Newcastle workshop, site installation and commissioning by the same engineering team that designed the system.
DC Power Systems and Custom UPS
DC systems are often overlooked until they fail, creating major operational and safety risks. We design and build custom DC power systems and industrial UPS platforms, including charging systems, cathodic protection supplies, battery backup system design and integrated monitoring.
As the exclusive Rectifier Technologies partner in Australia, we engineer, manufacture and commission systems built for long-term reliability across substations, telco, rail and heavy industrial applications.
Custom DC Power System Design
24V, 32V, 48V, 110V and 240V DC platforms designed to your operational requirements. Convection-cooled options to reduce maintenance intervals.
Industrial UPS Platforms
Custom UPS design and build for critical applications. Battery backup systems with integrated monitoring and SNMP/Modbus communications.
Cathodic Protection Power Supplies
Specialist DC supplies designed and commissioned to Australian standards for cathodic protection applications.
Power Factor Correction Systems
Poor power factor rarely shows up in a report. It shows up in penalty charges, overheated equipment and energy bills that don’t match your actual consumption. We design, engineer and supply power factor correction systems scaled to your load profile.
Whether you need a single power factor correction unit for a specific application or a multi-stage PFC installation across an industrial facility, we size the system from real load data and manage design, supply and commissioning.
PFCU Design and Supply
Fixed and automatic power factor correction units sized to your site load profile. Harmonic analysis included where required.
Active Harmonic Filters
AHF design and integration for high-harmonic environments, including multi-drive mining and industrial facilities.
Power Quality Audits
Site measurement and analysis before any design is finalised. Penalty charge review included on request.
Integrated PLC and Industrial Control Systems
Legacy control infrastructure creates integration risks when new automation is added. We design, manufacture and program PLC control panels for mining, manufacturing and heavy industry, from OEM equipment protection cabinets to full industrial automation control systems.
Our engineering teams handle PLC control panel design and build from concept to field commissioning, including software development, HMI integration and testing.
PLC Control Panel Design and Build
From concept drawings to manufactured, tested and commissioned panels. Software development and HMI integration included.
OEM Control Cabinet Manufacture
Bespoke protection and control cabinets built to OEM specification. Factory acceptance testing before delivery.
Industrial Automation Systems
Full automation control system design for mining and manufacturing. Integration with existing SCADA and controls architecture.p
Power Monitoring and Diagnostic Systems
Most operations teams only discover power quality issues after equipment fails or penalties land. We design and build industrial power monitoring systems with HMI control interfaces, giving operations and maintenance teams real visibility over load distribution, energy consumption and power quality events.
Our Colterlec Energy Monitoring System (CEMS) is a purpose-built platform for industrial applications, configurable to meet NCC-compliant energy monitoring requirements and scalable to include EV load management as part of a broader electrical energy management system.
CEMS Platform
Purpose-built industrial energy monitoring. NCC-compliant configuration available. Scalable to EV load management.
HMI Control Interfaces
Custom HMI design integrated with power monitoring hardware. Real-time load visibility for operations teams.
Power Quality Diagnostics
Continuous monitoring for harmonic distortion, voltage sags, power factor events and load anomalies.
How we work
Consultation and Scope Definition
We start by understanding your application requirements, site conditions and constraints. Our engineers ask the questions that prevent problems downstream: load profiles, environmental factors, integration points, compliance requirements. No assumptions.
Engineering Design
All design work is done in-house by our electrical and mechatronics engineering teams. You get drawings, specifications and design reviews, not a quote based on assumptions.
In-House Manufacture
We manufacture across our Newcastle and Wollongong workshops. Direct control over quality, lead times and the detail of how a system is built. No subcontracted fabrication and no gaps in accountability.
Installation and Commissioning
Our field teams install and commission the systems we've designed and built. The technician who commissions your system understands it from the engineering stage, not from a handover document.
Lifecycle Support and Maintenance
After commissioning, the same team is available for ongoing maintenance, fault diagnosis and system modifications. We provide 24/7 support for critical systems from our Newcastle and Wollongong bases.
Credentials and Certifications
We work closely with multi-disciplined engineering and professional personnel and take into account the OPEX and CAPEX to make sure it delivers to your specifications.
Socomec Service Partner
Authorised to service and repair Socomec UPS systems to OEM standard.
Rectifier Technologies Partner
The only authorised service partner for Rectifier Technologies DC power systems in Australia.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you handle the full project scope or just the design?
We manage the full lifecycle from concept and engineering design through to in-house manufacture, installation, site commissioning and ongoing maintenance. You work with one contractor across all project phases. The same team that designed your system installs and commissions it.
Can you design systems that integrate with our existing infrastructure?
What is harmonic distortion and how does it affect my equipment?
Harmonic distortion is distortion of the voltage and current waveforms caused by non-linear loads such as variable speed drives, UPS systems and other power electronics. Left unmanaged, it causes additional heating in cables, transformers and motors, shortens equipment life, degrades your true power factor, and can put your site outside the distortion limits your network operator enforces at your connection point. On mining and industrial sites where many drives run at once, harmonics are a common root cause of equipment problems that are otherwise hard to trace. Standard power factor correction capacitors do not fix harmonics, so the right solution is harmonic mitigation such as line reactors, passive filters, active harmonic filters or low-harmonic drives, selected from a power quality survey of how your site actually runs.
What is a DC power system and when is it used?
A DC power system is a dedicated backup power supply for critical equipment. When mains power fails, the DC system takes over automatically, keeping essential controls, communications and monitoring running until power is restored. You’ll find DC systems in substations, telco networks and industrial facilities where even a brief outage has serious consequences.
How do I start an engineered solutions project with Colterlec?
The first step is a conversation with our engineering team. We’ll ask about your application, site conditions, integration requirements and timeline. From there we can provide a scope and indicative design approach before any formal commitment is made.
